Mallory sighed, angrily. How much longer was this stupid plane going to be... they'd been flying for hoursnow and they were still in the middle of nowhere, flying over cloud. She shifted in her seat and tugged on her seatbelt, recrossing her legs. It wasn't as if there were any attractive men on this plane. Or women, come to think of it. Everyone looked fat and sweaty and none of them were prime candidates for the Mile High club...
Ugh, she was sick of this. How much longer, she wanted to shout. Then again, once she landed she'd have to go through all that hassle of gathering all five suitcases of her luggage and hiring a car and getting an apartment and going to work in that hospital... so much to do, so little to get her enthused for it. God, she was bored.
She stared out the window beside her seat (not that there was much to see, anyways). What would St Merediths be like? They'd probably be in a flurry over a girl as intelligent as her coming - all the hospitals had been head over heels to hire her, but she had chosen St Merediths for the facilities they had , not to mention the pay that they gave the specialist doctors there. She thought about doctors for a minute. What would the ones at this hospital be like? Probably geeky, freckled, bespectacled nerds; and the one hot guy would already have a girlfriend - not that that had ever stopped her before. Mallory smirked to herself, as the air stewards wheeled down their cart again, handing out little packs of nuts and cups of coffee. She leaned across the person next to her (a woman of about fifty in a suit; she looked like she had a stick rammed up her ass) and said to the man giving out drinks in the aisle, "Do you know how much longer this is going to take before we land? I'm bored out of my mind."
He glanced at her. She noticed that his hair was a lovely shade of chocolate brown and was going to stick out her chest and pout (yes, she was that far gone - anything, anything to spice up the flight) when he spoke to her. Three of his front teeth were missing! Eww! She could see his tongue through the gaps... she tried hard not to gag and instead focused on what he was saying.
"About an hour, ma'am. Not that long to go." He smiled in what he probably thought was a reassuring way and continued down the plane. Mallory slumped down in her seat. Great. Another hour of this hell...
