"That was a wonderful dance, eh?" Jack said.
"What?Oh yeah, I suppose!" Kirsten said being pulled out of her thoughts and daydream.
"Hey, what's the matter? you've been down ever since that guy said something about a high school prom and then something to do with the 13th of Friday on April in the year of 1999. Come on tell me, I won't tell anyone else, you can count on me!" he said with concern both in his voice and eyes.
"It's nothing, really, it's nothing. I can't hide anything from you can I?"
"Not a chance!" he said pulling her close.
"It's just what happened when I was 16 years old, eight years ago!"
"Go on,"
"Well I was downtown with my best friend ever and next door neighbor David. We were just hanging out and shopping for food and clothes for me." she said sniffing, " We came out of a shop and we were walking to the crossing. The.. the lights turned green and David started walking, he didn't even see the car speeding down the road. The next thing I know, I'm in an ambulance, pretending to be his sister, on the way to hospital. He.. he was in the ICU for two weeks. He was getting
better slowly and then the next thing is, he's being buried in the graveyard!" she said through stifled tears. "I had a prom when I was 16. Homecoming dance. He told me he wasn't going, and I went, upset. I had no date, but when I got there about 15 minutes later he arrived, it was a surprise for me," she finished.
"Oh, well I'm sorry," he said embracing her. Kirsten then just broke down.
"I..I...I d.don't really like talk..talking about it, you know!" she said.
"I know. Well think of it this way, he's gone to a better place, eh?" he said to her as he raised her chin up so that she could look at him.
"Yeah, I s'pose." she said with a bit of a smile, "You really know how to cheer a woman up, don't ya?!" she said silently. She then streaked passed him and down a hill.
"HEY, WAIT UP. WHERE YOU GOING?" he called as he ran after her. When he had caught up with her she was sitting down and taking of her shoes.
"What are you doing?" he said laughing.
"Wait and you'll see," she said smiling mischievously.
Jack sat down beside her and was about to turn and speak to her, when she got up and raced to wards the sea. She started splashing about and kicking the water and smack it, really just having fun and a good laugh.
"COME AND JOIN ME!" she shouted at the top of her lungs.
Jack laughed, he took of his shoes and ran to wards her. They started splashing at each other and then Kirsten suddenly slipped and fell in the water. Jack pulled her up.
"Are you ok?"
"Yeah.. that was fun!" she laughed.
"Good,"
"What do you mean good I'm soaked and my make up is ruined. It was a good thing that I took of my jewelry. But my dress is now ruined!" she said.
"Oh well come have more fun," he said pulling her to wards him and then he splashed at her again.
"Oh ho, you wanna play it that way do ya?" she splashed at him and then she pushed him in the water, "How do ya like that?"
Jack just laguhed and pulled himself back up.
"You know Kirsten, I've fancied you for quite some time now, I was going to ask you out, I just didn't know how to or if you were seeing anybody!" he looked at her.
"Really? That's the same with me," she said looking seriously at him. "Wow, that really put's thing's into perspective, don't you think?"
"I have to agree with you,"
"I knooow," she said.
"Kirsten, you're a really amazing person you know that!"
"And incredibly hyper at times, annoying, sensitive and among other things."
"Well yes there are those too, but you really are amazing!"
"Why, thank you!"
They got out of the water and back to the car.
"Can you drop me home?"
"Yeah sure."
"What?Oh yeah, I suppose!" Kirsten said being pulled out of her thoughts and daydream.
