"Yow wanna dance?" Jack asked Kirsten. "Hmm? Oh em sure, why not!" she answered. "This way my lady," he said as he led her onto the dance floor. "Have you seen the musical?" "Yes actually I did, it was quite good, I've seen better ones though!" he twirled her. "Have you?" "Nope, I usually tend to fall asleep through those sort of things," she laughed awkwardly. "Really?" "Really, really," "Oh." he said looking deep into her eyes. "What?" she asked. "Nothing, It's just....your eyes are so beautiful!" "Ok, you can stop with the compliments and the flattering," she said blushing. "But you are," he said. "Aww thanks!" the song ended and a new song came on. " Oh my god, I love this song, I can't remember what's called but I love it." she said laughing.

"Yes!" Amélie said. "I saw it. It was so inspiring. I must admit I nearly cried when they were singing about the girl who died." "Well, you cried the whole way through ET," Lucas teased. She blushed. "Shut up. Anyway, the musical was so good. I'd heard about it when I was in Oxford, so one weekend I went back to Paris, and Maddie and I got the Eurotunnel over and went to see it. She did cry," Amélie laughed. "I have the soundtrack at home..." She tailed off as she spotted Adam coming over. "Pour l'amore de Dieu," she muttered to Lucas. "You want me to talk to him?" he asked in an undertone. "Please," she said, letting go his hand. "Okay. I'll be back soon, milady," he said, kissing her hand and bowing. She laughed at him, then turned back to Callie. "What did you think of it?"

Callie nodded enthusiastically. "Trés bien!" She stared over at the dance floor, watching Kirsten and her new 'friend' dancing. Callie sighed. You could always tell with the new lovebirds. They were cute, and cuddly. And sweet. Sickly sweet. Ain't love grand? "Why has Lucas gone to talk to Adam?" she asked. "You said something in that French thing you do. Tell me!"

"Em... well, I said 'for the love of God' in French..." Amélie murmured. She was feeling uneasy about explaining. Then again, didn't Callie already know? "I think he likes me," she said. "Well, Jake pointed it out. But you know earlier when Adam was talking to us, and he had his hand on my shoulder? Well, I hate pepole touching me. And he always... compliments me, and it really irritates me. That's why Lucas dragged me away." She smiled, thinking of what Lucas had told her. She felt so... warm and good inside when she thought about that. It was different, to say the least, but really really nice. "I hate it though," she said, talking about Adam. Lucas came over to them, grinning. "Amy, you're not going to believe this." "What?" she asked. "He doesn't fancy you - he's gay!" "What?" Amélie said, her jaw dropping. "Adam, gay?" "Yes!" Lucas laughed. "Well... wow!" she said, thrilled. "So when he was complimenting me on the surgery-" "He meant it!" Lucas grinned. "Oh! Well... wait, who does he like then?" she wondered.

"Gay...?" Callie's jaw dropped. She couldn't believe it! This was too good to be true! "Excuse me, guys," she smiled at them, then grabbed the scruff of Harry's collar, dragging him across the hall. "Callie!" he cried. "I was in the middle of a conversation!" "You can apologise for your wife later," she cried. "You'll never guess! Adam's gay!" Harry raised an eyebrow. "You sure?" "Positive. Why?" "He seems so... normal." "What do you mean?" "Well," Harry frowned. "He likes to go down the pub. He loves rugby and football. He doesn't dress in pink or act all camp- " "All to lure men into a false sense of security," she said wickedly. "Rugby? Football? Well, I like em too, but not for the same reasons you would." Harry went slightly pale. "Oh..." "Oh," she agreed. "Besides, who else has that good fashion sense?" "Callum?" he offered. "Callum being the stereotypical gay guy," laughed Callie. "I have to set them up!" "You'll sabotage all hopes of them having a relationship if you do." Callie frowned at him. "I'm not that bad." "Yes, you are," he winked at her. She pouted. "Mean old man. You become more and more like your father everyday." Harry's face darkened for a moment. "That wasn't called for." She blinked. "Oh for god's sake! How many times, Harry? How many?" "It's his problem," sighed Harry. "Bloody hell," she shook her head. "You two are crazy. What about my dad? Mum's convinced he's dying. Your dad, on the other hand, is lively and healthy, but you act like you wish he was in the same position as my dad!" "I wish our dads could swap places," scowled Harry. "The world would be a better place for it." Eyes flashing, Callie turned on her heel and stormed back over to Amelie and Lucas.

"Oh god! Kirsten said. "What?what is it, what's wrong?" Jack asked looking concerned. "Nothing's wrong.....everything's right." she said smiling. They walked back over to Callie, Lucas and Amélie. Callie looked like she was on the path for vengence. "Hi Amélie, Lucas and Caaaa...hallie. Callie." she said turning away from Callie incase she bit her head of. She walked over to Amélie, "Hey, what's up with her?" she spoke so only herself and Amélie could hear her.

Callie frowned after Kirsten. 'Caaaa...hallie?' What the...? Grumbling, she sat down at a nearby table, nursing her champayne.

"No idea," Amélie said in an undertone. She turned to Callie. "Everything okay?"

"Peachy," replied Callie. Suddenly, a new, slower tune struck up. Callie turned to smile at Amélie. "Go and dance. You look gorgeous. Why let it go to waste?"

Amélie looked at Callie dubiously. "I don't know, are you sure you're alright?" But before Callie could answer, Lucas was behind her, his arms around her waist. "You want to dance?" Amélie looked at Callie, and wasn't sure that staying would help. "Em...okay." Lucas whirled her away towards the dancefloor.

Callie rested her head on her hand, staring out across the dancefloor. She wasn't listening properly to the music, even though it really was quite beautiful. A violin was playing somewhere... She closed her eyes, breathing deeply... "Excuse me?" Callie jumped up, swinging around to see a 15 year old patient grinning over at her. "Dr Black?" She nodded, smiling. "Uh... yeah! Yeah... I thought your mum wasn't allowing you to this thing?" He shrugged. "She thought I'd be bored. Too many adults." "Are you?" she asked. He shrugged. "Not really... Dr Grange and Dr Brown were getting off with each other by the water fountain, so I took a picture and I'm gonna blackmail them with it..." "Seriously?" "No," he grinned. "But I wouldn't put it past em!" She laughed. "Me neither, but don't tell them I said that..." "It's already erased from my memory." He sat down beside her, staring out at the dance floor. They remained silent for a few seconds, then he heaved a sigh. "My mum's dying." Callie bit her lip. "I'm sorry...?" "Peter," he replied. "I don't care though." "Don't say that- " she began, but he cut her short. "They want me to go to you for counselling," he said, wringing his hands together. "But I don't need it." Callie shook her head. "Then I won't bug you about it. Em... who exactly wanted you to come to me for counselling? I'm only a resident- " His expression changed. "You are?! How old?" "24..." she said, frowning. "Why?" "You look older," he decided, getting up. "Wh- what?" she cried, automatically diving for a mirror. "Seriously? What age!?" "36," he replied. "At least." "Oh god..." she muttered frantically. Callie suddenly stopped, realising how crazy she must look. "Hey, Peter..." she began, turning to look at him, but he'd already disappeared into the crowd. She stared after him, frowning slightly, then turned back to the dance floor. Eugh... kids... Why had she ever had one?

Lucas put his hands gently on Amélie's waist. "Are you okay?" he asked. "Hmm? I'm fine," Amélie said. "I'm surprised Maddox isn't here," Lucas remarked. "No, it's not really her 'scene'," Amélie laughed. "I thought she might gatecrash it though." "Still no clue on the Ben front?" "No," Amélie said, shaking her head. "I don't want to pry, I mean, it's clearly... sensitive... I don't want to upset her. She'll have to talk soon enough though." "Well..." Lucas said, clearly wondering whether or not to reveal what he knew to her. "Don't tell me," she said quickly. "I don't think I want to know." He nodded. "It's messed up, but I think you can guess that." "Yeah," Amélie said softly. "I guessed." She leant her head on his shoulder, inhaling his scent. "Amy, are you okay?" he asked, concerned. "Yes, why?" she asked. "You're very quiet," Lucas said. "No, I'm fine, just thinking," she said, raising her head and looking into his eyes. "About what?" "I'm really lucky to have you," she said softly. He looked touched and bent his head and kissed her gently. "I'm luckier to have you. What brought this on?" "I don't know," Amélie said honestly. "It's just... you told me you loved me, and I haven't ever been told that truthfully. Guys used to tell me that just to get me into bed. And you're just... perfect. You actually do love me, and you... I guess you rescued me from myself, and... I'm so lucky to have you, and I really do love you." Lucas stopped and kissed her. When they broke apart, Amélie felt breathless. Several people wolf-whistled. "What was that for?" she asked, blushing. "I love you too," he said. Amélie smiled, and he led her off the dancefloor. "Want to go for a make-out session?" he laughed. Amélie grinned, then she spotted Callie sitting on her own. "In a while, I just want to go make sure Callie is okay." She went over. "Callie honey, are you sure you're okay?"

Callie blinked. "Honey? You sound like Callum!" No, not at all. Harry drives me mental sometimes. His dad's in peak condition and mine's dying, but Harry wishes it were the other way round! I hate him when he's like this- so damn awkward! It's not fair! "I'm fine," she smiled.

"You're sure?" Amélie asked. Callie nodded. "Okay then," Amélie said, trying not to pry. Something was clearly wrong. Callie and Harry were normally all over each other, the perfect blissful married couple. Now they were separate at opposite ends of the hall. "Do you want another drink?" she asked.

"No," sighed Callie. "I actually feel a bit sick. I'm gonna' call a taxi. Tell Callum where I've gone, yeah?" She pulled herself to her feet, and, without a backwards glance, left the ball. Some party, eh?
