Callie stepped into the hall, immediately struck by the beautiful decor. The hall spread out before before her, down a grand staircase, seemingly stretching for miles. She could see everything... hear everything. Laughter, a soft, gentle piano solo filling up the room, a few brave souls were already dancing, heads bent close, whispering. Silver lights criss-crossed the ceiling, decorating it as though stars were shining down upon the happy prom-goers. Silver and black balloons floated around the place, and shining streamers hung from the ceiling. Harry whistled. "Not bad for a hospital budget." Callie giggled. "Ssh, you. Aren't you meant to be fainting at the sight of my beauty?" "Alas, you are not naked, so I shall do no such thing," he said, and recieved a kick for it. "Sharp heels," she warned as he hopped on one foot, swearing. "Don't make me use them again." He rolled his eyes at her. "Alright, my Prom Queen. Shall we dance?" Theatrically, he took a few steps down, and held his hand out to her. A sudden light struck him, as the starry ceiling twinkled down on them. Callie blinked. There was something about his smile as he looked at her... Suddenly, Callie felt just like a schoolgirl again. She grinned, taking his hand, and he led her down the steps. "I have to admit," she muttered, holding onto his arm. "You're a far better prom date than my original." "Because I'm gay?!" came a mock-outraged voice behind them. Callie laughed, turning to see a pouting Callum. He'd really gone classic for this, with a simple white tux and a red tie. He took a step towards her, eyes gleaming. "Just because I'm gay, it doesn't mean I couldn't have given you a good time in the bedroom." Callie really began to laugh at that one. "I have no doubt." "You know," said Callum, elbowing his way in between Harry and Callie, "I reckon that if I danced with you now, you might just fall for me instead of that silly excuse for a husband." "Alright, watch it, Callum," said Harry, pulling Callie towards him. "I can be very possessive." "Aah, good sir," cried Callum, pulling a rose from his pocket. "Will you draw?" "Fight to the death," smiled Harry. Callie was beside herself with glee. "Now, now, boys, you don't have to fight over little old me." "Ah, my lady," smiled Callum, daring a quick kiss on her cheek. "You are worth it." She raised her eyebrows at Harry. "Now, that's romance." Harry snorted. Callum suddenly stopped, staring in between Harry and Callie. "Never mind that, my sweet flower," he said to Callie. "If one shall direct their attention over there, one shall see some real eye-candy." Callie turned, cocking her head. "That's Adam! He's one of Amélie's friends- her attending, I think..." "Aww, he's delish!" giggled Callum. "Shall I introduce myself?" "I think he fancies Amélie," grinned Harry. "Sorry, mate. He's straight." Callum pulled a face. "All the hot ones are straight." "You could always go have a little fun with him anyway," smiled Callie. Callum turned to her, his face shining. "Really?" "Really," she laughed. He scurried off, looking very excited. "Poor Andrew," smiled Harry. "Yep," laughed Callie. "That Cal's a real sexual predator!"

Kirsten and Jack walked into the big dazzling hall. "Whoa, this is............big," Kirsten said. "Yep, but it's lovely decor," he replied. "Mm hmm," she answered back in agreement. "Let's go shall we?" she asked. "Yes," Jack held out his arm to her.She took it without hesitation. They walked down the stairs and stepped out onto the dance floor. The place was buzzing, people chatting casually,a piano playing on it's own and even a few people dancing. She saw Callie and Harry dancing a few feet away from them. Kirsten coughed. "Would you like to dance, my lady?" he asked. "Yes kind sir," she said curtsying while he bowed. They danced to the tune of Sanctuary. "I love this song!" she said. "Well then, so do I." he said giving her a twirl. Kirsten giggled. The song ended and they went and sat down. Callie and Harry came over. "Hi Callie, hi Harry! Jack this is Callie Black and-" "Harry Black," he finished for her."Do you want a drink?" "Emm yes please,Port if they have any, if not Champagne," "Ok, do you guys want any?" Jack turned to Harry and Callie.

Callie smiled. "I'd love one, actually. It's hard work keeping up with him." She jerked her thumb at Harry who laughed at her, slipping his arm around her waist. "You're just jealous because you can't dance." Callie nudged him. "Excuse et moi?! I am the queen of co-ordination." "More like the queen of clutz." Callie groaned, turning to the other two. "I hope you have some intelligent conversation. My husband is a real ass at the best of times." "She married me for my cookery skills," chipped in Harry. "She burns everything." Callie rolled her eyes. "Almost everything! There's a difference." She suddenly looked at Jack, and the actual presence of Kirsten's date registered with her. "Hi, Jack!" she laughed. "I don't think we've met? Never mind us- what about you? Ya like Kirsten?" Callie fancied herself quite the match-maker. This, of course, was rather unfortunate for her friends.

Lucas held out his hand to Amélie. "Would you like to dance?" Amélie laughed at his old-fashioned tone. "I would very much like to dance," she smiled, taking his hand. As they walked onto the dancefloor, the pianist and singer started a beautiful renedition of KT Tunstall's "Other Side Of The World". Amélie put her arms around his neck as he placed his hands gently on her waist. "You look very handsome," she remarked. And he did; he was wearing a black tux with a blcak shirt, and looked positively great. "Why, thank you," he smiled. "You, however, look stunning. You're definitely the belle of the ball." "Hardly," she scoffed. "Everyone here looks so amazing." Lucas laughed, "Yes, they do. You know, you have the lowest self-esteem of any doctor I've ever met." Amélie smiled. "My self-esteem is fine." "Au contrair," he said. "Only a woman with low self-esteem could come out of her house looking stunning and honestly think she looked like crap." "Okay, okay, but I don't think I look like crap," she admitted. "I think I look quite nice, but in no way am I stunning." Lucas laughed and rolled his eyes. "You cannot take a compliment!" Amélie laughed. She didn't think she looked stunning, but she did feel pretty good about herself. She was wearing the beautiful dress she had picked out with Callie and Callum's help, the material of which felt great on her skin, and her black heels made her taller. She'd been to her hairdresser, who had used her magic GHDs to shape her hair into a few long, very loose ringlets, and she had done Amélie's make-up for her, outlining her eyes with smudgy kohl. A girl always felt good after getting her hair done and wearing nice clothes. And she was wearing the bracelet Lucas had given her earlier. It was beautiful, silver and delicate, with the dainty rose charm hanging from it. It was so special, and it had been given to her by a very special person. Another special piece of jewelry was the silver and blue topaz pendant her mother had given her. The pale clear blue stone was exactly the same shade as her eyes. When Lucas had seen her as she'd answered the door, he'd let out a low whistle. "You're definitely a lot hotter than my last formal date." "And, I'm also going to make sure you don't need your stomach pumped," she'd quipped. He'd laughed and fastened a crimson rose corsage around her right wrist. Now, as they were dancing, he was whispering into her ear. As she giggled, she caught Adam watching her. "Lucas," she said quietly. "Is it just me, or is Adam watching me?" He twirled her around under his arm so he could see. "Yes," he confirmed. "Damn it," she muttered. "He was complimenting me all day yesterday, and it was bugging me. And now he's staring." "Well, let him stare," Lucas said unexpectedly. "You deserve to be looked at." She smiled and hugged him, inhaling the deep, sexy, spicy scent of him. "You smell good," she said. He laughed. "It's the aftershave you bought me." "Yes, I know," she laughed, then the song came to an end. The people on the floor politely applauded the pianist and singer. Amélie looked around and spotted Callie talking to Dr. Savach, who looked uncomfortable. "Oh, I had better go over there," she said to Lucas. "Awkward situation." She told him quickly about setting Dr. Savach and Kirsten up." He rolled his eyes. "What, you're a matchmaker now?" "Yes," she said happily. "Right, are you coming or do you want to go circulate?" "I shall get you a drink then bring it over; I know Jack." Amélie smiled at him and walked over to Callie and Harry, and Kirsten and Dr. Savach, both of whom were looking more awkward by the second at Callie's questioning. "Hey guys," she said, interrupting them. "Having fun?" "Hi," Dr. Savach said, looking relieved. "Yes, it's been great." Amélie smiled at Kirsten and Callie. "You two look lovely!" Before she could start talking to them properly, Lucas came over and handed her a glass of champagne. "There you go, honey." She laughed. "Thanks, darling." Lucas chuckled and kissed her cheek, then started talking to Harry and Jack. "So are you having fun?" Amélie said, turning to Kirsten and Callie and sipping her champagne.

"Yes I am having a great time, thank you, really, thank you!" Kirsten replied taking a sip of the Port that Jack had gotten her. " You look great too." Just at that moment one of Kirsten's favourite songs came on. She grabbed hold of Jack's hand and pulled, "Come on, let's dance, please?" she said with puupy dog eyes. "Ok," he said looking at the others as if saying help. They started dancing and Jack twirled her and lent her back and all other sort of dance moves. Then a slow song came on and he pulled her closer. "I feel drawn to you," he said looking into her eyes. "That's because I've got you under my dark throll!" she laughed. The song ended. "I've got to go to the ladies room. Excuse me," she wallked over into a hall and turned right. Jack walked over to Callie, Amélie, Harry and Lucas. "I love that girl, she's so beautiful and kind and well ideal!" he said to them. "Thank you Amélie, thank you. I was actually going to ask her out but I didn't know when the time was right or if she was seeing someone, that and I didn't know how to ask."

Amélie smiled. "Aw that's so sweet. It was no problem. I'm Cupid," she laughed. Lucas was chatting to Harry about baseball or something, and she'd been chatting to Callie. Adam came over. "Hey guys." "Hey," Amélie said. She immediately tensed up and looked over at Lucas pleadingly, but he was engrossed in conversation with Harry and Jack about something, presumably baseball. He started talking to them about something or other, that Amélie would have found interesting were it not for how acutely aware she was of the fact that his hand was still on her shoulder. She really didn't like people touching her, unless of course it was Lucas. And it didn't help that her dress was strapless, so Adam's hand was on her skin. She kept her eyes on Lucas, trying to send him a telepathic message to turn around. She was snapped back to attention by Adam's voice. "What about you, Amélie?" "Hmm? I'm so sorry, what were you saying?" "Anything interesting happening in your life?" "Oh, my aunt - well, she's only six years older than me, she's more like my best friend - is coming over in two days," she said, smiling at the thought of Maddie coming over and still trying to silently get Lucas to turn around. That obviously wasn't working, so she coughed quietly. That didn't work either. Goddammit Lucas, she thought. Amazingly, at that minute, he flicked a glance towards her. His face darkened as he took in where Adam's hand was. Amélie made a help-me face. "Amélie," he said. "Can I talk to you for a minute?" "Sure," she said, following him outside into the gardens. When they were outside, she sighed heavily. "Thank you so much," she said. "I hate other people touching me." "I hate seeing other people touching you," he scowled, taking her hand. "Come on, let's go for a walk." It came in useful, Amélie reflected as they walked through the expansive gardens of Heaven, that Lucas was protective of her. It was also really very sweet as well. She shivered slightly. It was freezing out and her wrap was completely useless. Lucas noticed her shiver. "Are you cold?" "A little," she said. "I'm fine though" He took off his jacket and put it around Amélie's shoulders. "Thanks," she said, feeling the warmth from Lucas's body warm her. "What were you talking about with Harry and Jack?" "Baseball," he admitted sheepishly. "I knew it!" she laughed. "Okay, okay, be fair," he said. "I'm not completely obsessed with it, unlike some people I could mention, and I'm not like you with Grey's Anatomy!" "Fair enough," she smiled. "So what were you guys talking about?" "Our lives," Amélie said. "I was saying about how Maddie is coming over in two days." "I can't wait to meet her," Lucas said, swinging her hand gently. "She sounds really great, and she has a lovely telephone manner." "She is," Amélie said warmly. "And, coincidentally, that's exactly what she said about you! I can't wait for you to meet her. I just wish my mother would come." "She will. Give her time." "It's been seven months, Lucas," she said almost desperately. "And it's been ten years since my dad left. She's dating someone, so why can't she come out here? I would go out there, but quite frankly, I can't afford it, money and time-wise-" "Hey," Lucas interrupted her quietly. "It's okay. She will come Amy, you're her daughter. She misses you. And you're an intern, Coralie will know that you aren't able to fly out." She signed. "Sorry." "Don't be," he said, then smiled. "Hey, come with me. I want to see what they've done to the fountain." "The fountain?" she asked, as he dragged her by the hand down a tree-lined pathway. "Yeah, I worked here as a waiter when I was sixteen," he said. "They have a fountain and a huge gazebo over here." He stopped at the end of the path, and Amélie saw an avenue with a trellis over it leading down to a beautifully lit up fountain. "Oh!" she exclaimed in wonder. "See?" he said, leading her down the avenue to the fountain. "it's pretty, isn't it?" "It's gorgeous," she breathed, as he sat her down on the edge of the fountain. "And it's not as claustrophobic as inside," he said, sitting beside her. "That's because it's an open space, you fool," she laughed, lightly flicking some water towards him. "Um, did you flick water at me?" he asked, mock-outraged. "No, I flicked it, towards you," she pointed out. "Duh!" He laughed, watching her dabble her fingers in the water. "We kind of ruined the romance of this, didn't we? A clear, starry night, dancing, fountain, fairy lights, champagne..." "Well, fix it then," she grinned. "Okay... O' Amélie, your eyes are like the sea." She burst out laughing. "Oh Lucas, you suck at this." "I know," he grinned, then looked at the water, which was sparkling with the reflection of the lights. "Hey, how's this: your eyes are like the water, clear, and they sparkle with the reflection of the stars." "Cheesy, but much better," she smiled, leaning forward to kiss him. When the kiss broke, he took a strand of her hair and started playing with it, twisting it around his fingers. "I love you," he said suddenly. Amélie looked into his eyes and felt elated. It was almost like a surgery high, but so, so, so, so much better. "I love you too," she said, the words flowing through her veins to every part of her; every centimeter of her body meant this. They stayed sitting like that for a few minutes, then Lucas looked over at the other side of the garden. "Hey, we'd better get back in there." "Yeah, they'll be wondering where we got to," Amélie said, standing up and smiling at him. He put his arm around her waist and they walked like that up to the door into the hall. They saw their friends standing exactly where they'd left them, and walked over. "Okay, what did I miss?" Amélie said, smiling at them.

"You interrupted me at a crucial time," said Callie sulkily. "I was just about to compare their compatability by their birth signs." The other two looked at her strangely. Callie giggled. Sometimes, it was sort of fun, being a complete nutter. Callie was a happy person, just an all-round, general, jokey... yeah, well... you get the point. Callie had never been top of the class, and she knew fine well she wasn't the best surgeon here. Her degree had been a fluke! That was another thing about Callie. She was lucky. She guessed it was Karma's way of saying thank you! Callie wasn't super-smart surgeon material, like Amélie, nor did she had Kirsten's sensitivity to other peoples' feelings. But she was everybody's friend. People liked Callie. She was fun. She knew it well. But she was hiding too. "Aren't you Sagittarius?" she asked Kirsten. "And you're em... Leo?" she directed at Amélie.

Callie blushed. "Right... I'm hopeless with dates..." Too true. She often forgot her own birthday, never mind Harry's or her friend's! "Star signs define a person's personality- if you believe such things," she added quickly. "Some star signs are suited, some aren't. I can compare your two signs and tell you how compatable you are!"

"Oh yes," Amélie piped in. "It's what element your sign is, or something like that. Aquarius, Gemini and Libra are Air, Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn are Earth, Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are Fire, and Piesces, Cancer and Scorpio are Water. So isn't it if your elements are matched or something? Or if the signs are opposite... I'm not sure."

Callie grinned. "Never mind. It's all really complicated- and a load of bollicks if truth be told..." She sighed, taking a delicate sip of champagne, then wrinkling her nose in disgust. She hated anything with alchohol. What did her dad always call it- an aquired taste? Well, this was one taste she wasn't too keen to acquire. Suddenly, a new beat struck up on the dance floor. Callie spun in surprise. This stuff was actually good... and familiar. Where'd she heard this...?
It was just another ordinary day, Talking on the phone nothing to say...
Callie snapped her fingers. Luv Esther- one of the greatest musicals she'd been to in her life. That wasn't many, but Luv Esther was still pretty damn good.

Amélie grinned in recognition at the song. "Hey, that's Luv Esther! I saw that musical!" "You did?" Lucas asked. "Yes, Maddie and I took the Eurotunnel over to London last year and we went to see that," she grinned. "It was great! Better than Grease, actually!"
