"We need morphine, STAT!" shouted Phil.
"If you don't get me morphine right now, i swear to God, Lucy, this animal will die purely of pain!"
"I'm sorry, jeez, chill, P! You'd think it was emergency!" Lucy snorted.
Phil rubbed his tired eyes in exhaustion.
"Lucy, it's a wonder you actually qualified for a vetrinary nursing course!"
You could tell Phil was literally about to blow his fuse, especially by the way he savagly pushed down the pump to administer the mrphine.
I stood silently, on standby, but more importantly, learning all the time.
I shifted towards the whippet's head,
"There there Jojo, not long now," i whispered.
"You do know that dog can't hear a word you're saying, right?"
"of course! But i like to think that when she wakes up, she'll vaguely remember a little voice, reassuring her, " I grinned.
Phil lowered his voice,
"I don't think this littl 'un's gonna wake up."
My heart sank. From when Jojo came in, need an elbow replacement, i had a horrible feeling something would go wrong.
And something did go wrong.
Lucy, instead of feeding Jojo normal Doggy Mix, had been giving her Conditioning Mix, seeing as she was a whippet.
This caused short burst of incredible energy, but if she was in her cage, it was well contained and wouldn't do any serious harm.
But then, a day or two ago, when Jojo was being excercised, one of these bursts came along, and of course, woth her bad elbow, it made things ten times worse.
Now, i'm standing here, holding a gauze over the elbow joint, praying to God that the steady beeps from the heart monitor would stay like they were supposed to stay.
beep beep beep beep beeeeeeeeeeeeep
Phil threw down his equiptment and stormed off, leaving me to announce the time of death.
"Time of daeth," I said, taking a deep breath, "2.15pm"
I heard Lucy try to talk to Phil about getting time off on wednesday afternoon to get her nails done, when he yelled,
"Just get out of here, right now Lucy! GET OUT!"
At that very moment, in walked my best friend, Amelie, throwing me a confused look as to why Lucy had stormed past her, carrying all her belongings.
