She smiled back. "It's just how you're feeling. It's how we all feel. You can be upset about the stupidest thing and the world and it would still matter." That's just how Callie went through life. She was an optimist, through and through. And she always believed that what people felt and thought was important. She supposed that they were all pointless in the end; and life was too short to spend your time moping. You find happiness in the littlest, meaningless things- and give them meaning. At least, that's what she thought. "So what perspective?" she smiled. "It's all the same, really. This is why I like music so much. The sound of raw human emotion." She giggled. "Now I sound all deep and thoughtful. I should grow a beard to stroke while I'm on one of these rants."

"That would make you considerably less attractive," Alex grinned. "And it would remind me of my creepy great uncle. Please don't."

She laughed. "I couldn't be bothered going through with all. There are injections and crap like that... I don't know how people who get sex changes can be bothered." She paused, looking at him sideways. "You should grow a beard. A long grey one, and be the Dumbledore of the hospital."

"I grew a goatee once," Alex grinned. "It was alright I guess, but no beard. Stubble is as far as it goes with me." He paused. "When you were talking about music, what sort of music would you be into?"

"Not dance beats, if that's what you're asking!" she laughed. "No... em... different stuff, I guess. Songs and words that actually mean something to the people who composed it, and songs that the listeners can take something out of... It just depends. What about you?"

"The same," Alex said, impressed at how she'd put it. "I'm not into the whole emo scene though. Old stuff, mainly, like Metallica, Maiden, Sabbath, Guns N' Roses, The Clash... you know. Though I love some of the new stuff. I love Snow Patrol! I'll tell you what though, I fucking hate Fall Out Boy with a fucking passion." He grinned sheepishly. "Sorry, I get a bit heated about that. Anyway... your turn for a topic..."

She laughed. "I hate them too, don't worry!" Her turn for a topic... Great, now that the conversation was going, her mind was just going to go spinning around madly for a while, until she got bored, drunk, or recieved a call from Harry, asking her what the heck she was playing at by staying out so late. "Music... meaning..." she muttered, running her hands through her hair. "Music to meaning to anti-emo to a hatred of Fall Out Boy to... um... why don't we just stick with Snow Patrol?" she laughed, giving up. "I'm not so good with just randomly pulling a topic out of thin air, and if I did, it would probably be cat-orientated. Snow Patrol is a hell of a lot more interesting!"

"I went to see them in concert in New York," Alex said, holding his glass up to the light to see where it came from. "I thought I would hate them but my cousin dragged me along. This was before they were really huge, it was their first US tour. I loved them, and bought all of their albums. They're probably my favourite band, to be honest. I played them all at full volume in my flat for ages. Ellie hated them. We disagreed on a lot of things, not just Snow Patrol. Freakin' Coco Pops. I mean, who doesn't like Coco Pops? Or Snow Patrol?" he said, then laughed and felt embarrassed as he realised he'd brought the conversation back to Ellie. "Anyway... sorry. I tend to rant a little. So do you like Snow Patrol?"

"Er... yeah," she laughed. "I do, except my daughter won't let me play them. I always sing along, and then she gets annoyed, because she believes my focus should be on her, and always on her, no matter what. Oh, and I hate to say this, but... I don't like Coco Pops either..." That was a pretty wow statement, wasn't it? Except Coco Pops always had those adverts on T.V. It wasn't so much the cereal- it was the monkey. And, god, how she hated that friggin monkey...

Alex was about to ask why the hell she didn't like Coco Pops, before he focused in something she'd said. "You have a daughter?"

"I have a daughter," she repeated, smiling. "She's 3 years old. Not to mention a pain in the arse. But she gets away with it because she's cute." She frowned suddenly, cocking her head at him. "Why?"

Alex raised his hands defensively. "Hey, no ulterior motive. It's just... well, don't take this the wrong way, and bear in mind that I've had a couple of whiskeys, but you seem too young to have a kid. And you're an intern... usually the long hours don't go too well with children. And you're in a bar after work, talking to me. Also, your husband is a cardio-surgeon, and well... it's the long hours again. I just didn't think you would have a child, no offence." He then realised that he probably sounded like he was lecturing her on working long hours with a child, and wanted to fix it because that wasn't what he meant, but... his tongue wouldn't fit around the words.

She raised an eyebrow. "I'm 24 years old. My daughter goes to a perfectly good pre-school and I have an amazing Mum who baby-sits her for me. She isn't completely neglected, you know, we do see her at night. Maybe the idea of two working parents isn't a good one, but I'm sure as hell not about to give up this career, especially as I've worked my ass off for it." She said all of this, and it was true, but it didn't mean that she didn't feel a guilty pang. What was she doing in a bar? Drinking away the sorrows? Bah! What sorrows? Her brother was a way of life- she'd been dealing with it since she was two for chrissake. "Maybe I should go," she sighed.

"I didn't mean to offend you," Alex said quietly. "I didn't mean that at all. I'm not the most articulate person. I'm sorry."
